Hotel Woodlands is located in the heart of Kalpeta town and is a good choice for the budget traveller. The hotel is located on main road of Kalpeta and although the building is visible from the road, the entrance to the hotel is from the back side. To reach the entrance, one has to negotiate a narrow road for about 100 feet before the hotel gates open up on the left. The hotel has a spacious parking which can accommodate 15-20 cars at any time. If you are travelling by a private vehicle, you should not have problems parking your car here.

The lobby is fairly simple and decor is minimalistic. The rooms are laid out on the first and second floors while the ground floor has the restaurant, conference hall and travel desk. The hotel offers 32 air conditioned rooms, and the rooms are all quite spacious with comfortable beds. There are ample numbers of closets and the bathroom is clean and spacious. There is a 24 hour supply of hot water in this hotel.

The TV was running a local cable and predominantly had Malayalam channels with few Hindi and English channels as well. The food is from the restaurant below and the room service is decent. However the kitchen closes by 10.00 PM and when we checked in there was nothing available, therefore we had to satisfy ourselves with bread and jam for the night. And this is a standard feature in all hotels I have stayed in Kerala; they close their Kitchens very early.

The tariff is inclusive of breakfast and this is one of the high points of a stay in the Woodlands. During peak tourist season, the breakfast is usually a buffet comprising of a spread of north Indian, south Indian and continental fare. The breakfast is simply superb and should not be missed.

During the off seasons the breakfast can either be had in the restaurant below or will be served in the room.

The travel desk of this hotel is quite well staffed and they will be able to arrange for vehicles, guides and trekking in the lower and upper Wayanad Sanctuaries. Overall Hotel Woodlands in Wayanad is good value for money. It is located centrally, priced reasonable, has clean spacious rooms and the food and the staff are great.
