The Tamarind is a KTDC enterprise and is located within Thirunelly. It is a budget hotel; therefore do not look for exotic stuff here. There are 11 rooms, all quite spacious and airy with attached balconies. The decor is simple with a double cot, comfortable beds, a TV, telephone and a couple of chairs. There are two types of rooms: Deluxe A/C and Deluxe Non A/C. Both rooms are similar except for provision of air-conditioning.

The bathrooms are clean with 24 hour running hot water and the hotel does not provide with any bathroom linen. The cable TV beams predominantly Malayalam and Tamil channels with a few English entertainment and news channels thrown in as well.
There is ample parking in the premises of this hotel, therefore the worry of parking your vehicle is taken care of. The front desk is open 24 hours and their staff is quite knowledgeable and courteous.  

The in-house restaurant is open from 7 AM to 10.30 PM and serves both veg and non veg food. However the menu is quite limited and you may not find the food very sumptuous. Apart from this room service is quite limited and they take an awful lot of time to serve, hence it is better to eat in the restaurant itself.

Apart from these amenities, there is a beer parlour, where one can knock off a few chilled bottles of beer. The beer parlour also stocks some wines, but they do not have any hard liquor.
The KTDC Tamarind is a decent hotel with all basic amenities for a comfortable stay. However I do feel that the rooms are a bit over priced.
