Suchipara: Needle On Rocks

This is about 22 kilometres from Kalpeta and a serpentine road along tea gardens leads to a place where you can park your vehicle. At this place you will find a variety of shops selling things like ice cream, juices, amla marinated in salt, honey, tea, chocolate and pickles. From here you will need to walk nearly a kilometre and half to reach the falls. The word “suchi” in Malayalam means needle and it is probably reflective of the rocks on which the water falls.

suchipara falls

The falls is three tongued and almost hidden within the dense rainforest but you can hear the falls from almost a kilometre away. Once you reach the falls, it takes a little effort to walk through the algae covered rocks at ground zero to reach the falls. But once you reach the falls, the water is simply liberating. The force of the water on your body is probably the best massage I have ever had. I felt completely rejuvenated after a bath in the falls.

After spending some time photographing we started back. On the way our energy was sustained by the delicious amla marinated in salt syrup. You must try this, the taste is heavenly and something which you will only get to eat in this part of the country.

We slowly made our way back to our car and since we had been to one falls that day we decided to visit the Edakkal Caves next.
