Kuruvadweep is a unique piece of history and ecology in Wayanad. Located at a distance of about 15 km from Mananthavady, this is an island located on one of the tributary of Kabini and it spans an area of 950 acres. This Island is untouched by modernity and can take you back to the days of jungle book. This island is inhabited by a primitive tribe which claims to have resided this place for many thousands of years.

 

A visit to Kuruvadweep is an experience to be savoured in full and one must keep a complete day aside for this. Firstly you will need to cross several streams on the way and while you are crossing them you should take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the streams and lie down in the sun and just laze away. Once you reach the island there is you can meet up one of the tribes and enjoy their hospitality. Long after you return from this place the soft rustle of the leaves and the hum of the flowing streams will still keep ringing in your ears.

There are many tour operators who offer trekking trips to Kuruvadweep. These treks are usually conducted in groups of five and cost around 3000 rupees per night which includes the cost of accommodation, food and a tribal guide.
